Discovering Stillness: Restorative Yoga
Slowing down and learning to be still can be life-changing. This 2 hour workshop will give you the tools to practice Restorative Yoga and relaxation, the art of slowing down, finding stillness and learning to let go.
In our busy and stressful lives most of us do not know how to rest deeply. Even our yoga practice can become one more thing on the “to do list”. This is the yoga of how to simply be, not do. Restorative Yoga is a wonderful compliment to an active practice, rejuvenating the energy of both body and mind.
By using props to support us in the most comfortable way we are able to stay longer in each pose, which facilitates letting go into stillness. You will learn the science and physiology of relaxation as well as the therapeutic benefits for many common conditions such as burn-out or anxiety. By giving the body time to heal these poses are a powerful antidote to stress and over-stimulation.
Our focus is to shift the nervous system into parasympathetic, or “ rest and digest” in order to relax. The physical sensations of openness and softening help release tension from the body while simple mindfulness meditation helps cradle the mind. By using breath work and imagery we coax our minds even further towards letting go.
